Columbus, OH- The Nittany Lion fencers sit in a tie for fourth place after the second day of competition at the 2012 NCAA Championships. Monica Aksamit (Matawan, N.J.) and Margherita Guzzi Vincenti (Milan, Italy) each claimed Runner-Up in their event, while Alina Antokhina (Moscow, Russia) took third place in the Women's Foil. The Penn State fencers had a successful day hosting Drew, Haverford, UNC, UPenn and Temple at the White Building. The one-day event was the last home event for the team this season. With few individual defeats, the men and women went 4-0 and 5-0, respectively, for the day.

The Penn State fencers will be in action this weekend hosting Drew, JHU, UNC, Duke, UPenn and Haverford in the White Building. Recently the Nittany Lions, both men and women, were ranked first in the USFCA College Fencing Coaches' Poll. The poll was the first of three released throughout the season.

Nine members of the Penn State men's and women's fencing teams traveled to Kansas City this past weekend to compete in the NAC Olympic Trials. The four-day event, which started Dec. 9, put the Nittany Lions against some of the country's top fencers.

The Nittany Lions had a great day of competitive action this Saturday, Dec. 3. Penn State hosted NYU, Vassar, Harvard, Princeton and Sacred Heart for a one-day event in the White Building. There were some excellent individual performances as well as a great team effort that led the men and women to an overall record of 5-0 for the day.

University Park, Pa.- Two current and one former Nittany Lion will represent their countries at the 2012 Olympics in London after qualifying this weekend. Those representing the United States qualified at the Division I National Championships in Virginia Beach, Va. Eleven current and former Nittany Lions have represented their countries at the Olympics, covering five different countries.

EASTON, Pa.- Eleven Nittany Lion fencers qualified for the 2012 National Championships during Saturday's Mid-Atlantic South Regional, hosted by Lafayette. Penn State placed six in the top three of their event. Princeton was the only school who placed more in the top three of their events, with seven. Nationals will be hosted by Ohio State in Columbus on March 22-25.

Both the men's and women's teams took first, surpassing some of the most dominating fencing programs in the country, including Notre Dame, who the Nittany Lions fell to in last years National Championship. This is the first of three polls that will be released throughout the remainder of the season with the next two taking place in mid-February and early March.

Columbus, OH- Penn State Men's and Women's fencing finished fifth in the nation at the 2012 National Championships. Penn State ended the championships with 151 team points, including strong performances from Men's Saber, Women's Saber, and Women's Epee. Ohio State won the National Championship with 182 points. They were followed by Princeton with 161 points, Notre Dame with 160 points, and St. John's with 158 points.

Ohio State leads the team standings with 149 points. They are followed by Princeton and Notre Dame with 135 and 130 points, respectively.
