Senior sprinter Shericka Ward (Leesburg, Fla.) automatically advanced to the national quarterfinals in the 100 meter hurdles, running a time of 13.23 in her first round heat at Hodges Stadium on Friday evening. Ward was one of five Villanova athletes competing on the second day of the NCAA East Regional being held on the University of North Florida campus.

Sophomore middle distance runner Samuel Ellison (Dresher, Pa.) is the first Villanova athlete to secure a spot at the NCAA Championships site in Des Moines, Iowa next month after automatically qualifying in the 800 meters on Friday night. He was running in the national quarterfinals at Hodges Stadium on the second day of the NCAA East Regional and came in third in his heat.

The 2012 Villanova volleyball schedule is now available, head coach Josh Steinbach announced on Thursday afternoon.The Wildcats will open the season at home on August 24 for the annual Villanova Classic.

The trio of freshman Samuel McEntee (Perth, Australia), sophomore Samuel Ellison (Dresher, Pa.) and junior Nicoy Hines (Paterson, N.J.) each advanced automatically to the quarterfinals of their respective events on the first day of competition in the NCAA East Regional at Hodges Stadium. McEntee ran in the first round of the 1500 meters, Ellison competed in the 800 meters and Hines was running in the 400 meter hurdles.

Senior attackman Kevin Cunningham (Garden City, N.Y.) has been named a 2012 USILA Honorable Mention All-American, as announced by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association on Thursday morning. Cunningham is the fourth player under Head Coach Mike Corrado's tenure to earn All-America status.

Senior designated hitter Matt Fleishman (East Northport, N.Y.) and junior second baseman Tyler Sciacca (Staten Island, N.Y.) were each announced as All-BIG EAST selections by the conference at Bright House Field on Tuesday night, with Fleishman receiving first team honors while Sciacca was named to the second team. Both players were part of a Villanova offense that ranked among the best in the league this season.

In its final game of the 2012 season Villanova (28-27, 10-17 BIG EAST) lost to Rutgers (31-23, 16-11 BIG EAST) by a final score of 10-8 at Bainton Field on Saturday afternoon. The final tally of 28 wins for the season matches the third most in a year under head coach Joe Godri, who led his Wildcats to more than 25 victories with at least a .500 record for the eighth time in 11 years.
