It certainly wasn’t the easy way, but the Yale varsity eight is in the semifinals at the 2012 NCAA Championship. The Bulldogs earned the final spot by finishing third in the afternoon repechage. Yale crossed the line in 6:51.20, three-one-hundreths of a second faster than fourth-place Michigan State.

Two of Yale’s three crews earned a spot in the semifinals after the morning heats on day one of the NCAA Championship on Lake Mercer. The varsity four qualified with an impressive second-place finish in its heat, while the second varsity eight moved on by finishing third.

Junior Mike Levine placed 39th in the hammer throw at the East Preliminary Round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of North Florida. He was the only Eli in action on the meet’s second day of competition.

Three members of the Yale women's track and field team concluded their seasons at the NCAA Regionals on Thursday. The Bulldogs posted 24th, 25th and 31st place finishes to close out their seasons.

Three Bulldogs were in action today at the East Preliminary Round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of North Florida. Yale’s qualifiers – senior Matthew Bieszard, junior Mike Levine and senior John Van Deventer – competed against the 47 other best athletes in the East region in each of their respective events.

Head coach Will Porter has been pleased with the progress his young women’s crew has made during the course of the season. Porter, though, still doesn’t believe the team has reached its full potential. The Bulldogs have one last opportunity to prove him correct when they head to the NCAA Championship this weekend on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J.

Winning the 2012 Ivy League Tournament and grabbing its first NCAA Tournament berth in 20 years helped produce some national individual honors for the Yale men’s lacrosse team. Three Bulldogs, Greg Mahony (Mercer Island, Wash.), Peter Johnson (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Dylan Levings (Massapequa, N.Y.), were honorable mention USILA Division I All-Americans.

The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced today the members of the 2012 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, and a dozen members of the Yale football team were selected. The Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.

Nine Yale women’s rowers have earned Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association honors. Sophomore Maddie Lips and senior Catherine McDermott were named first team All-New England region, while senior Dara Dickson, junior Eliza Hastings and freshman Christine Devlin were selected to the second team.
