The scoring system is:
1 Point for: Punches to the head or body.
2 Points for: Kicks to the body.
3 Points for: Kicks to the head.
The competition area may vary between 9x9 meters or 8x8 meters in international championships.

Taekwondo [tʰɛkwʌndo])[a] is a Korean martial art and the national sport of South Korea. In Korean, tae means "to strike or break with foot"; kwon means "to strike or break with fist"; and do means "way", "method", or "path". Thus, taekwondo may be loosely translated as "the way of the hand and the foot."
