The ninth innings of Friday's Red Sox-Rays game was full of madness and plenty of drama. After a pair of beanballs were exchanged from each side, the benches cleared and an all-out melee ensued. Well, Rays' manager Joe Maddon apparently was furious with Boston's behavior in the incident. Maddon was fuming in the clubhouse after the game and guaranteed revenge, saying "we will respond, I can promise you that." But apparently Tampa's head man even took to Twitter after leaving the ballpark to e...

In the words of Ron Burgundy, "That escalated quickly." One moment on Friday night, the Rays were cruising comfortably to a 7-4 win over the Red Sox. The next, benches were clearing and coaches were inserting themselves into the middle of a brawl that left both teams sniping back and forth in the aftermath of it all. On Saturday, the two adversaries will meet again in what has the potential to be a very tense affair that might quickly reach the boiling point yet again. Both teams will likely ...

Designated hitter Luke Scott didn't do much hitting in the Tampa Bay Rays' series opener against the Boston Red Sox. Instead, he got hit - and the benches cleared as a result.
He appears to have a good chance to turn the tables given his history against Josh Beckett.
Scott, Carlos Pena, Matt Joyce and the rest of the Rays will take their hacks against Beckett on Saturday night as visiting Tampa Bay looks for a fourth straight win.
Scott hasn't yet had a great effect on the outcomes of the ...

8 a.m. ET: After dropping the opening game of the series, the Red Sox will try to avoid a repeat of Friday night's performance, both on the scoreboard and on the field. A benches-clearing brawl caused quite the stir during Boston's 7-4 loss, and saw some very interesting things said by both managers in the postgame. The Red Sox (22-23) will try and put the game behind them, as they try to gain ground on their 6.5-game deficit in the AL East. The Rays (28-18), meanwhile, will be looking for so...

Luke Scott has become Public Enemy No. 1 in Boston on the heels of his insistence that Fenway Park is "a dump." Don't worry, though. He's sorry. "As a baseball player, going there to work, it's a dump," Scott said of Fenway back in April. "I mean, it's old. It does have a great feel and nostalgia, but at the end of the day, I'd rather be at a good facility where I can get my work in. A place where I can go hit in the cage, where I have space and it's a little more comfortable to come...

Things got a little chippy at Fenway on Friday night, and the frustration was obvious in the Rays clubhouse following the game. Rays manager Joe Maddon was upset at what transpired in the ninth inning, when Red Sox reliever Franklin Morales drilled Luke Scott after firing a pitch behind him earlier in the at-bat. "I didn't understand the situation whatsoever," Maddon said. "It was not called for at all. I'm kind of curious as to regarding who put out the hit, because I know it wasn't one of t...

Josh Beckett doesn’t seem like the same pitcher who was recently booed by the Fenway faithful on his way to the dugout, as the 32-year-old has won his last two starts, giving up a total of one earned run. In his last trip to the mound Beckett pitched 7 2/3 innings of one-run, seven-hit baseball, [...]
