The Carolina Girls Dance Team and Gamecock Cheerleaders got their seasons started last weekend in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The University of South Carolina athletics' spirit squads had yet another successful showing at the 2009 National Cheerleaders Association/National Dance Alliance Collegiate Championship the past weekend in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Cocky from the University of South Carolina has been named to the seventh annual Capital One All-America Mascot Team, made up of 12 over-sized and often under-appreciated characters - including three birds, three cats (that could be trouble), one bison, one horse, one wolf, one turtle, one bear and a dog. The University of South Carolina's spirit squads gave a successful showing at the 2008 NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance National Championships over April 9-12 in Daytona Beach, Fla. Highlighting the event for the Gamecocks was the coed squad, which took home fourth place in Cheer Division IA with a score of 8.394. The dance team finished in 10th in Dance Division IA with an 8.816, as did the all-girl cheer squad in All-Girl Division I with a score of 8.244.
