OKLAHOMA CITY - The John Brown University Lady Eagles pulled away in the second half and went on to defeat the Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels 60-41 in a Sooner Athletic Conference matchup Thursday evening (Feb. 16) at the Gaulke Activity Center. Consecutive buckets from Chelsea Garrison helped extend a six-point halftime lead to a double-digit lead of 33-22 with 17:10 left. After five points from Chelsea Key kept the Lady Evangels within striking distance at 38-28, Garrison scored again to ignite an 11-2 run that put the Lady Eagles in total command with a lead of 49-30 with 5:53 remaining. Back-to-back threes from Lauren Rogers gave JBU its largest lead of the game at 57-35 at the 2:26 mark and the Lady Eagles never looked back. Garrison scored the first six points of the game to give the Lady Eagles the early lead. A trey each from Parris Price and Erica Jones fueled a 10-3 spurt that gave the Lady Evangels their first lead of the game at 10-9 at the 11:56 mark of the first half. The Lady Evangels led 12-11 when another bucket by Garrison and a three from Jessica Berlin capped a 9-3 run that put JBU back on top 20-15. JBU twice built the lead to eight, but a buzzer-beating layup from Price brought the Lady Evangels to within 26-20 at the break. Price led the Lady Evangels (10-15, 4-15 SAC) with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting overall and 2-of-3 from three-point distance. Key also reached double-digit scoring with a career-high 11 points. Nicole Wittman corralled a team-high eight rebounds. Garrison was the lone Lady Eagle in double-figures with 16 points and hit 8-of-12 from the floor, along with a team-best eight boards. The Lady Eagles (14-13, 8-11 SAC) held a 38-29 edge on the glass and limited the Lady Evangels to only a 33.3 percent (17-of-51) shooting clip. MACU will next hit the road again and play at Rogers State on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 18) at 3 p.m. in Claremore, Okla.
